What I think about Troy? They took a wonderful and eep story, changed it completely and banalized it

It was adjusted to fit the movie but how do you think they banalized it?
I am really interested in your opinion since I like it (the movie) and I like you. :angel10:

Thank you :angel1: And sorry for the late answer, I 've been away some days.

Well, the changes were huge, because a lot of charachters died who didn't have to die,for example. A major change is represented by fact that Patroclus was not a little boy and not Achilles' cousin in the real story: he was also a warrior and Achilles' best friend, which, in the Greek world, probably meant also lover (even if the Iliad never says it explicitely). This is an important banalization, I think, because their relationship is meant to represent the strength of friendship between two man who are companions and comrades, while the movie turns it into a completely different kind of relationship (and I wonder if it's due to a sort of puritanism, which can't admit the suspicion of homosexuality for the strongest of heroes).
Another important point is the love between Achilles and Briseis: in the real story there is no great love story in the hollywood style. Briseis was Achilles' slave, and in that society women who were conquered as slave were just considered a property. This does not mean that jhe didn't fall in love with her: but it wasn't a romance, it was more of a feeling that could suit a hard life like that, and it was full of contradictions, that could be very interesting also on the socio-historical point of view, even in a movie. So, for example, when he got angry with his fellow Acheans it was not so much because they separated him from the woman he loved, but because it was a point of dishonour to be deprived of one's war booty. This can be less romantic, but the stoy of Troy is a story of word dominated by a warrior ethics and I think that, changing the ethics that are at the basis, you can't understand that world...And you miss most of its deepness.

Thank you so much Rosalie. :angel3:
I will try to make some remarks when I have more time. Anyway beside all its flaws, I think that the movie had showed some beauty of the ancient times and I don’t consider it the waste of time.:angel5:

I'll admit for shallow reasons why I liked Troy. I liked the men scantily clad. There I said it.

Isn't it how most actors are powerful? Aren't they powerful through the characters they portray?

Yes, I also think so...often we like actors because of their charachters!

Or how well they do them. Such as Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lector! He was BRILLIANT!
