Post A bit of help is needed...
Hello everyone,

I have a character named Ingrid and she is in charge of the household staff and kitchens in Marie's Austrian palaces. What position should I call hers? Housekeeper just doesn't cut it in my opinion. Does anyone have a better term? Thanks and have a Great Day!

Optimistically,
Ray

I believe the title would be Superintendent of the Household. Perhaps someone could help with the French, maitresse... If this is set in the time of Marie Antoinette, shouldn't it be the Princesse de Lamballe?

Thanks Delicate Fleur!

I love the term 'Superintendent of the Household' and that is exactly what I will call it. No, it couldn't be the Princesse de Lamballe because this is in Austria, before Marie goes to France. Thank you SO much and I wish you a Beautiful and Blessed day.

Gratefully,
Ray

I just read your original post again - yes you are writing from her time at Schönbrunn Palace! I think the term in German is: "Superindendent des Haushalts."

Indeed, that is what I would have called her.
Lamballe was appointed after Noailles though! :]

Of course, but I was mixing up Ray's timeline in the novel, I was thinking it was set during Antoinette's reign for some reason.

I'm reading MTC's book, and it says that her dame de honneur, knew MA as a child and was very trustworthy.
I'll have to find her name...

Thanks Monsieur le Comte! I would find it most beneficial if you could supply the name along with any relevant information/details that you might feel would be of interest.

Gratefully,
Ray

Yes, but it is still in the rudimentary stages. It is about her childhood in Vienna before leaving for France and is a fictional children's book based, however loosely, on real historical fact. Sorry I didn't answer this sooner. I get lost in here. Thanks for your interest.

Sincerely,
Ray
