Post SILLY QUESTION PERHAPS...
I know this may sound like a silly question, but does anyone know what the real color of Marie's younger brother the archduke Maximilian Franz's hair was? I am sure that it was blonde or brown, but I really want to make him have black hair. I also don't want to completely destroy history though and so need to know the real color of his hair. Does anyone know?

Thanks!
Ray

I suppose it was the same color as Marie Antoinette's was, reddish-blonde. However, he would've worn it powdered.
Ray, I don't think making him have black hair would be such a crime, but I doubt it would be accurate.

Dear Madame Vigee-Le Brun,

Thank you so much for your help. I really appreciate it. The only pictures I found online were of him wearing a wig, but I had a sneaking suspicion that he too was blonde. I may just give him black hair because I have based his character on a boy I knew as a child who had black hair, but I still have reservations about it as I hate to contradict historical truth. I gave her sister Maria Carolina golden blonde hair and I gave Marie herself more platinum colored hair because that is what I thought she had. I gave her fictitious friend reddish blonde hair, though. Even though my book is entirely fictitious, it bothers me to write things that were absolutly incorrect so, knowing myself, I will probably have to change his hair color, thus making almost everyone in the story blonde... What do you think?

Thanks again,
Ray

Oh, I have never seen this! Yes, many portraits have her with this colour, others not. Sometimes they are from the same time, so how do we know who is accurate?

Nor have I. I don't know if it is indeed accurate. I apologize Delicate Fleure.

Please check out this web site. Scroll through the pages to see samples in jewelry of Marie-Antoinette's hair and a necklace made out of the hair of her children. 8)
