Post hail, marie, full of grace!
simply mad for marie here. i've been intrigued by her and her tragic story ever since i was a little boy in kentucky. a google search for something i can't remember led me here years ago, and here i am joining on this bastille day--ah, the irony.

on my 1st trip to paris, i simply had to make my 'marie pilgrimage'. i started by touring the conciergerie; then i walked the route of her tumbril to the guillotine--in MA's 'honor' i spit back in history at that peasant woman as i walked past st. roch; after la place de la concorde i walked to the chapelle expiatoire; then metro'ed to the basilique st. denis, where i felt at home with her and her earthly remains. (my avatar is a detail of the pic i took of her and louis' statue there.)

my 2nd trip to paris, i went to versailles, but did not go inside that castle--instead i scurried to la hameau de la reine. i wanted to be with her favorite part of that vast complex. i imagined to myself that i very much felt her presence there.

anyhoo, i'm glad to finally be a member here, and i look forward to skipping from post to post and sharing with all of you.

gros bisous,
tod in philadelphie

p.s. i loved the zweig bio, but i view frasier's as definitive .

Welcome here, mad4marie/Tod!! Hameau is lovely, and you would enjoy visiting the Chateau de Versailles, too!
