Post French Pretender to the Throne
Does anyone know who the current French Pretender to the throne is? I was discussing this with my french teacher and was wondering if anyone knew? Or has the line completely died out? I think this would be an interesting topic to discuss :) Lets see what we can come up with :)

I have done a little reseach on the topic and i have found that there are two factions that consider theirselves the current pretenders to the french throne. The first is the Legitimists, who consider Louis Alphonse, Duke of Anjou as the pretender. His reigning name would be Louis XX. He considers himself the leader of the house of Bourbon. He is expecting his first child in the spring of 2007.

The second is the Orleanist faction. Henri, Comte de Paris, Duc de France. His reigning name would be Henry VII. He is supported by many Royalists as head of the French Royal House.

It is very curious to see how after 200 years there are still rivalities between the main branch of the Bourbon house and the Orleans... I think I would support the candidate of the legistimist faction, he is more handsome...

i'm with you there, he's VERY handsome! wouldn't look too bad with a crown on his head either!

what are the chances of bringing back the monarchy in france? is it too late or completely impossible? it seems to me that the french are more sympathetic now to MA and what happened and from what i've seen in museums, it seems she's become a typical tragic heroine. time to rethink the past? just pondering.... :?:

I Suppose that would be up to the french people severina :D Although... im sure the "civilized" countries of the world would embark on a campaign against this "regime" if it was ever to be formed. Who knows... id be one of the first in line to see the crowning though :P

hi jean-francoise, i agree with you totally there, i think it would be wonderful. living in a country with a monarchy DOES have its advantages, i doubt there'd be as much tourism and money coming into this country if it wasn't for the queen.

we've had our bloodshed too (ie charles the first) but the restoration and then the subsequent establishing of the parliament with the crown as head was one of the best things that happened to us in the long run.

time to start a campaign maybe?!?!

Hmmm, as a fellow Scot Severina I must disagree. Visitors to this country come because of it's history, culture, beauty - little of which has anything to do with the present (English) monarchy.

yes that too but i guarantee if there was no monarchy you wouldn't get half the americans etc that we do now. i for one am glad to have them despite scandals of recent times.

When I was living in France (13 years ago!) the Comte de Paris was widely regarded as THE candidate to the Throne. I suppose he still is.

That said, the case is actually very complex. Have a look at this (includes pictures):

Louis XX certainly has the looks of a pleasant King 8)
