Idem, and also "Marie Antoinette en accusation", by Sabine Flaissier, "Marie Antoinette", by Philippe Delorme, "The Fatal Friendship", by Stanley Loomis.

Bertiere too; I haven't read Delorme, but after being on this forum am going too; but I would strongly recommend going beyond her and reading a book about the reign of Louis XVI and/or a book about the revolution. books that focus on MA tend to give an insufficient picture, though the recommendations here go beyond that.

This is a great topic. My thanks to everyone, especially Monika for suggesting it. I have been using "Marie Antoinette" by Desmond Seward and stuff I find online.

I think the best Louis XVI biography I've read in English is Hardman's.. and he has a more recent book about Louis XVI in the "profiles" series that is also very good and much shorter - in that he reviews several different biographers and also draws on the recently discovered collection of letters from Vergennes. I think he does a good job at being as unbiased as you can get with a topic as controversial as the French revolution - he's not admiring of the king, but not contemptuous of him. He doesn't respect MA very much, I think, but it's just an impression - he doesn't disparage her.
And it's in English - more accessible.

I am in the process of reading Olivier Bernier's "Secrets of Marie Antoinette: A Collection of Letters". Does anyone know of him? He seems to have a very good reputation and was awarded some honor in France in 2006, and has also written some other things pertaining to the Revolution.
Wondering if he is a reliable source?

I found a link about this collection:
(She's called "Marie" in this article, wrongly, as we know. Though it is a nice summary.)

you can buy it on:
