Puce or more precisely intérieur de cuisse de puce... or even ventre de puce... depends on the mood I am in...

Puce is a colour Marie Antoinette adored. It is a kind of brown-red-velvet... deep, rich and dark.

"Puce" actually means "flea", so that ventre de puce (abdomen of a flea) was a kind of sweeter puce, and intérieur de cuisse de puce (interior face of a flea thigh) is even lighter.

I adore those colours, as well as burgondy, velvet, boue de Paris...

I wear dark colours - deep reds, browns and a lot of black. But I love light, bright shades of yellow, green and blue. So 'things' are bright and funky; clothes are dark and dreary.

The shade puce was named by Louis I believe. There were also shades named after the Queen's hair and, well, the dauphin's nappies!
Were there any other strangely named colours which did the rounds?

Indeed ! "Cheveux de la reine" colour, a kind of ash blond, and "caca dauphin", a kind of kaki colour...

~I myself adore anything that is pink, I loved Marie Antoinette's lovely pink dress in the film, one of my favorites. I also love green, very calming and soothing isn't it? :D
