Post subject:  Mozart and Antoinette?

Can someone PLEASE tell me about what happened with Marie Antoinette and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart? I read in a book that they got married, but other research that i've done says that they never got married and that there is no proof that Mozart even said that! PLEASE HELP!!!

I read that when they were younger, just kids, that Mozart said he was going to marry her when they were older. I took it as just kids playing around. They never married.
I am sure that others on here will be able to give you more detail about it.

It's a popular myth that after he had finished his first court performance, Maria Theresa asked him what he wanted his reward to be. He said that all he wanted was to be promised Antoine's hand in marraige. In reality he jumped on the empress' lap and kissed her cheek.

Another version states that after his performance Mozart ran around the palace with the imperial children, but slipped on the highly polished floor. All the other children laughed and ran off, but Antoine helped him up. Mozart told her she was kind and that he would marry her when they were grown up. Quite cute!

I guess that would make sense... Thank you so much! I'm writing a research paper on her and I looked at that and wondered... "Humm... so does that mean Mozart married the queen of France?" Guess who was wrong? ME!!!
