Post October 16, the death of the queen
Oct 16 is the anniversary of the death of Marie-Antoinette de Lorraine d'Autriche. I thought I would start a discussion about the guillotine and the particulars of the queen's last ordeals, and the great courage that she showed. Here is a link to an article about the queen's execution by author Elena Maria Vidal: http://www.emvidal.com

Marie-Antoinette wore white on her final journey through Paris, for white was the color of mourning for a queen of France. Her serenity and courage after all that she had been through were amazing.

They tried to disgrace her right to the very end.

She rode through the streets in a garbage cart, her arms bound behind her, her hair hacked off, and she not cry, she did not plead, she did not fight them.

They say she stepped upon the foot of her executioner and she begged his pardon. They could do anything they liked and they did, but they never got her dignity. In the end she had the final word.

:( I forgot today marks the day of Marie Antoinettes death. She was truly a remarkable woman through her ordeal, losing her freedom, husband, her children and her best friend in such an awful way.

On a side note, it is so sad what happened to the little dauphin what I read in her biography, how he was completely neglected because of who he was and how she could not do anything about it... to be a Mother with no power to do anything about her family at all, she never deserved to be treated the way she was.

Atleast she would be with all her family now, well I believe that anyway..

Please, don't read this as an off-topic. I just wanted to tell you I have my hommage à la Reine when playing myself music today. Pieces related to her someway. I am sorry not to participate the details of the execution this time. It is too sad, I hope you understand Dear Therese, but be sure of where our thoughts and prayers are today..

And the more we will be thinking of her, the best it would be ! The strongest she will feel it... She so much wanted to be loved and remembered.

"Oh, oui, aimez-moi toujours", she wrote to Gabrielle de Polignac, and "pensez toujours à moi".

We will, my Queen, we will...

If only we could write words, light candles, play notes enough to erase this awful event forever...

Yes I know, it is too sad. It happened this afternoon, 12:15 p.m. 213 years ago. This anniversery makes me want to learn about this amazing woman all the more; having learnt of her trials and tribulations in the Bastille and Conciergerie makes me pity her all the more; and learning how she went to her death with dignity makes me admire her all the more. In her own words, "Tragedy shows us who we really are." May she rest in peace.
