Post Gabrielle De Polignac's apperance
Everyone knows that the Duchess' appearance was beautiful and elegant, the queen herself thought when she first laid eyes on her, she thought she had seen an angel. But in most books I read, it says she met the queen in the court but others say the ball, which is it? And was it really her sister-in-law Diane who introduced the Queen to the duchess?

Thanks! :D

You are right, Louis-Antoinette, it is difficult to know how Gabrielle really met the queen. I have read two versions: a ball, indeed, Chou, and also during a concert organized by Diane. I guess that, anyway, Diane introduced her lovely sister-in-law in the court.

I'll check with Paroy's memoirs, on Gallica, you know, this reference Aurore gave us... It is full of details about Gabrielle.

The last portrait that you showed us Pim is original because it is the only one where we can see Polignac with a part of her hair completely powdered .
On her other portraits she has natural hair or very little powdered hair.

I love the first one of Polignac by Vigee LeBrun, I think it was the first portrait I saw of the Duchesse. :D

Polignac was born on September 8, 1749. She was thus 6 years old more than Marie-Antoinette.
She met Marie-Antoinette for the first time in 1775 I believe, so 5 years after the arrival of Marie-Antoinette in Versailles

Merci, merci! I think I asked this in another post, but it seems natural here, as well...so at the time that MA met Yolande, MA had already established a firm relationship with Lamballe? How did Yolande and MA's relationship affect Lamballe? And what, if any, relationship formed between Yolande and Lamballe? :?:

When Marie-Antoinette met Polignac in 1775, she was already very friendly with Lamballe. And with the wire of time, Marie-Antoinette preferred the company of Polignac to that of Lamballe, the latter being more timid, more calms and more discrete.
Because between 1770 and approximately 1780, Marie-Antoinette wanted to be amused, she wanted to be astonished by several things. And Polignac did that better than Lamballe.
Thus Lamballe attended less Marie-Antoinette during one moment, even if they remained friendly.
