Thanks Cat and Pimprenelle...I think I should narrow this question (as you say, it's a little complicated)...What are anyone's ideas on this:

To what extent did Marie ANtoinette deserve her reputaion which contributed to her execution :?:

It depends how much time you have to answer and make researchs !

She actually was condamned for high treason. Her trial was a maskerade (they even accused her of incest on her little 8 years old son !), they condamned her without evidences. But these evidences they hadn't in 1793 we have now ! Letters have been found proving that, indeed, she did send military plans out of France.

So, it could be interesting to understand the reasons why she send those plans. How she believed in kingship by divine right, and in nothing else. That's amazing for us, because we now have democracies. But to put ourselves in Marie-Antoinette's shoes can be fascinating.

It would be impossible not to talk about her extravagancies. Her english garden, her blue theatre, her dresses, her passion for diamonds... this leading to the awful necklace affair. She was innocent... but considered guilty because, in people's minds, she could have done so !

Her being accused of incest is also a very interesting point. It reveals that, while Marie-Antoinette was living in reality, another character was developping through pamphlets and cartoons. An awful orgiast Messalina.
We all know she couldn't make incest, she would find that horrible ! On the contrary, she was such an affectionate and careful mother !
But her dark legend was stronger than her true person. She was supposed to commit any sexual perversion, so, on her trial, a so-called witness thought it was logical to accuse her of incest !

That is really interesting : there are two Marie-Antoinettes, in fact. The real one, having made mistakes and so on... but not that serious !
And the other one, the mythological monster created by cartoons and pamphlets. The French population believed she was the second one...

You're not what you are... you are what people think you are. You are your reputation... That's awful !

Good luck for your work ! Don't hesitate to ask for more, if we can help...
I can talk about Marie-Antoinette for ages !
Do you need references for books or what ?
