She keeps trying to convince me the Marie Antoinette said "Let them Eat Cake!" She says it was a proven historical fact, and I'm like, no it wasn't! She believes the Marie Antoinette was a bitch!

And another thing, she told me that in the 16th-18th century everyone wealthy was fat because it showed they didn't work. WRONG! Ever heard of corsets, stays, pair-of-bodies? Women of wealth were encouraged to have the smallest waste possible! I thoroughly dislike ignorant people.

...Yes you will be able to say to your teacher that it is recognized by all the historians in France that Marie-Antoinette never said this sentence. Even Coppola (it is to say  ) knows it.
Marie-Antoinette was a nice person, benevolent and attentiveā€¦ she would never have said thatā€¦ It is an Louis XVI 's aunt who would have said a sentence of this kind, but before the revolution. :D

Your teacher does not know that the wealthy ladies did get a lot of excercise by hunting, taking long walks. Marie-Antoinette and Louis XVI both enjoyed gardening with their own hands.

Being a teacher doesn't necessarily means being clever or knowledgeable in all things. Your experience with your English teacher proves that we should stop assuming that teacher = infailibly intelligent ;)

Actually, being in front of students, and as a consequence a kind of model, we should try at least not to be too stupid and close-minded...

... but I am an idealistic person...

I actualli like my English teacher because she lets us go off onto nonsensical discussions about various topics unrelated to English, and one day we came upon the French Revolution, and that's how she started talking about Marie Antoinette.

If anyone does have proof that Antoinette was mean to Louis during their first years , could they please post it ? I really don't think that there would be much about that though, seeing as she wasn't a mean person.

About the women being fat .. well i do think they might have been plumper than today's women - but then again they didnt have treadmills , and the beauty expectations were different then . But fat ??? i really don't think so

Maybe women then were just normal ? Today, beauty criteria tend to anorexia...
