Post subject:  MA's names

Hi all!
Just a question. Does anyone know the reason of MA's names?
I remember reading that Antonia was after S.Anthony of Padua and Joanna was after S.John. Yesterday I read in a book that Marie and Joseph were after the queen and king of Portugal.
I don't know if this info is right. Any help/suggestions?

Wikipedia.org says:

Quote:
Of the names given at her christening, Maria honored the Virgin Mary; Antonia honored Saint Anthony of Padua; Josefa honored her elder brother, Archduke Josef; and Johanna honored Saint John the Evangelist.

I hope this helps :)

Hi arianna!
Thanks for your post. That's the info I found in wikipedia but I am not sure about it, specially because it has no references.
The thing is that I found a book about MA (which is full of things that are not accurate) and it says that Marie and Joseffa were after the Portuguese king and queen.. That's where my doubt comes and I was looking for references to know why she had those names.
THANKS again!

All the Austrian archiduchesses have Maria as first name, as Maria Theresia was very devoted to the Virgin Mary. She was called Antonia because of St. Antonio da Padova, but I don't know anything about the origing of her last two names... :(
