Post MA's tomb
Does anyone know if one can visit the crypt of the Bourbons at Saint Denis cathedral and in particular see MA's tomb?

Yes, you may... But, if you are a sensitive person, beware... So many people are buried in the crypt... It is an upsetting place.

In the basilic, you can find statues of Louis and Antoinette that are just wonderful !

Her face is so pure, so beautiful...

However, her tumb in the crypt was a deception to me... Just a black plaque... I felt no emotion, no peculiar feeling...

Then, I went to the little Square Louis XVI, and the Chapelle Expiatoire, that was built where Marie Antoinette and Louis's bodies remained for so many years...

It is so weet, so peaceful a place... with birds singing and children playing... There I felt her presence...

Madame,

Thanks for yr mail, fascinating photos. I have seen the statues of MA and Louis XVI at Saint Denis, in fact it was whilst contemplating the wonderful statue of our queen that it all started for me a few years ago now. However I didn't know that you could visit the crypt and therefore have not seen her tomb. As for the Chapelle Expiatoire, I was there today, I go there often during my lunch hour to eat my sandwich, its so close to my work. You would be amazed at the comments in the dedications book, we are more numerous than one thinks, and the comments are very fervent sometimes. I would love for some of us to meet up there one day...I always feel her spirit there.

I have been to Saint Denis. Louis and Antoinette's statue was wondeful, but I didn't like the crypt much, hearts and dead people... And cold. But it was very interesting place.

Very beautiful :) ... but the only thing that seems a little odd is that they would open the tomb. I would think that would be disrespectful. Unless you are speaking of something else ...im not so sure because all that would have been left of her was some bone fragments and her garter (from what I have read)

I could be wrong though

I agree with you. I'd wish they had let her rest in peace with all these poor souls that were buried in this little cemetery after their executions.

And, of course, how could they be sure they were picking Antoinette... They had no DNA tests !

That is also very true Pimprenelle...perhaps those remains are not even hers..but we will never know for sure.

well no she wasent in bones or anything she just had alot of dust on her and looked very dirty even dough she had no hair because they chopped it off I think that she was still the most bouatiful queen of france , when they opened the tomb I thought it was bit aqward to do that but then I was just happy they did that because I always wanted to know what she really looked like even douhg you can see the portrants of her thats not propbibly what she eczkacly look like.So for me it was a miracle that I could get too see such a wonderful woman.

Are you claiming Marie Antoinette that someone opened her tomb for you and showed you her remains?
