I don't know if it is sure (or if there are any evidence, I might say) that she was "compleately mutilated", though many accounts say she was. It is certain that she was beheaded, though.

Hanet Cléry, Louis XVI's valet, wrote about how her head was brought on a pike to the Temple prison for Antoinette and the others to see:

"We were hardly seated before a head at the end of a pike was presented at the window. Tison's wife screamed loudly; the murderers thought it was the queen's voice, and we heard the frantic laughs of those barbarians. Thinking that Her Majesty was still at table, they had raised the victim's head so that it could not escape her sight; it was that of the Princesse de Lamballe. Though bloody, it was not disfigured; her blond hair, still curling, floated around the pike."

Well that is certainly proof. Those barbarians! If you behead a person at least bury them and not parade the head around. I suppose they didn't understand or ignored the concept of decency! :evil:

See, in trying to copy the American Revolution the french became out of control, they lost all forms of decency, and resorted to vulgarity and inhumane treatings of all people. I have seen a picture with her head on the pike, ill upload it here;

But I don't think you can compare these two revolutions and say that the French copied the Americans. Even if revolutions were "in vogue" at this time it's not really as simple as: the French wanted "an American Revolution" and couldn't handle it.

The American's didn't quite like how the British ran things so they got rid of them the only exception I can think of is the Boston Massacre, which is what the British inflicted . I don't think they merely wanted a seperation, I think those barbarians wanted to see people suffer and die. I understand if you are hungry and want a change, that is understandable. Mercilessly slaying people won't do anything to help the situation. If they wanted merely a separation from the monarchy, the monarchy could have been merely a constitional monarchy, or have the Royal Family Exiled, and it would have been more peaceful or quicker.

I agree with you Hellou.
Hans Axel, I should've been more clear with ym response, I apologize. What I mean to say is that the french saw the results of the revolution and therefore were inspired by such an event taking place.
I think that's what I meant! Also that they let everything get way too much out of control. To the point of not being able to turn back. "Past the point of no return" quoting andrew lloyd webber ;]

I was researching a lot about the French revolution, I needed it for school and one project, and I have read in to many sources that the body of princess Lamballe was indeed mutilated by the crowd; they had cut her head and genitals and then put them on the pikes. They also screamed, while holding her head on the pike under the Marie Antoinette’s window, that she kisses her cold lips. Accordingly, princess Lamballe was handed out to the mob after refusing to swear to the revolution.

Oui, it was very senseless and brutal what they did to the poor Lamballe. Sure, perhaps they felt it was necessary to execute her and a swift, humane death would suffice. But the rape and desecration of her body was amazingly cruel. Yes, dear people, the glory of the Revolution!

Glory indeed. I believe execution would have sufficed. Did they also mount her breasts too? I don't understand, why didn't they simply execute her? That's repulsive and depressing. :(

By all accounts many in the mob were drunk and baying for blood. People went crazy during these times.

They were drunk!?! How could have they been capable this committing these atrocities when they were drunk? I can comprehend getting into a brawl, or doing something incredibly stupid saying utterly ridiculous things. But ruthlessly raping a woman, murdering, tearing her corpse, placing her genitals, her head, and her breasts on a pike parading it around like a prize? It seems too callus or them to have been drunk.

Please read pp. 463-6 of Fraser's 'The Journey'. This was my understanding of the event. I am not suggesting absolutely everyone was drunk. Drunk people are quite capable of getting into fights and causing harm, as well as rape. If anything it brings out the animal in man. You ask why they would execute her. Yonge notes in his 'Life of Marie Antoinette':

'It was on the prisoners in the different places of confinement that the work of death was to be done: and she had been specially marked out for slaughter, not solely because she was beloved by Marie Antoinette, but also, it was understood, because, as she was very rich, and sister-in-law to the Duc d'Orléans, that detestable prince desired to add her inheritance to his own already vast riches.'
