I'd hate to say it makes me think of the French less, more importantly humanity, and what cruelty were are capable of.

I know people are capable doing the most horrendous things, believe me. I feel that we humans are capable and filled with such good will kindness, yet we choose not to be kind. Most of the human race is kind, and generous. We must acknowledge what evils humans are capable of and rejoice in what good we are capable of.

Philippe Egalité did somewhat redeem himself with his sincere remorse about his cousin which he expressed on the scaffold before his own execution.

Yea verily. That doesn't really compensate for anything if he really cared, he wouldn't have voted for Louis XVI's death.

Yes, but he was on the scaffold when he said it, no hope of reprieve!

That's essentially anyone babbling nonsense if they had a gun to their head. I believe Philippe did that to avoid his death if he could.

I'm not sure I agree with that. Without dwelling on religious ideals, I feel that it's not up to anyone to judge somebody's remorses' values and to state whether he deserved forgiveness or not. It's just my personal feeling about remorses and forgiveness, even if I don't have more sympathy for this man than you !
