|Post subject:||Did Philip the Fair bring on a Vendetta?|
Is it true that when Louis XVI was decapitated that someone jumped out from the mob, held the severed head high before the crowd and shouted "Jacques de Molay, thou art avenged!" ? Did Philip le Bel begin a centuries long vendetta by arresting the Templars throughout France on Friday 13th, 1307 that finally culminated in the French Revolution? It is hard for me to believe that such horrors as befell Louis and Marie could have been the result of such hatred for Philip IV or for the institution of Monarchy in general that, in their eyes, might have, in itself, allowed the arrests to happen. It also seems grotesquely obsessive and unfair. Could anyone substantiate or disprove such a strange 'modern legend'?
