Post subject:  Re: Madame Du Barry's Execution

What is absolutely extraordinary about this story is that Madame du Barry came back to Louveciennes at all, despite having been repeatedly warned not to leave England. She seemed to genuinely believe that her good actions in Louveciennes and her humble origins would save her, as her letters, signed Citizen Du Barry, to the local muncipality would seem to show. But we all know how the mob always reacted without pity towards royal favourites, (or the Kings' whores as they saw them) even going so far as to dig them up from their graves or desecrate their tombs, as was the case with Agnes Sorel and Diane de Poitiers.
