«He was born Napoleone di Buonaparte in the town of Ajaccio on Corsica, France, on 15 August 1769, only one year after the island was transferred to France by the Republic of Genoa. He later adopted the more French-sounding Napoléon Bonaparte.»

Napoleon was a very good militar and politic, this, we can't disagree!

I respect Napoleon as a liberal ruler and a just person. He ended with the purchase of the royalists (even if he killed Enghien, it was an isolated case, needed to be discussed more carefully), and permited the divorce and other liberal laws. Unfortanely, he was very ambicious! He could make France in a colonial empire, strong and rich. But he didn't wanted that. He declared war to almost all european countries, and that I can't forgive him. If it wasn't the napoleonic wars, he would be a almost perfect ruler...

What do you think?

I like Jospehine, too. Napoleon was a Jacobin and a friend of Robespierre. Like all Jacobins the high ideals evaporated when it came to acquiring personal power. He had more an an autocracy than any of the kings dreamed of....

That's it ! An iconolaste who deleted the fleurs de lys to put his bees ! Nothing more than a Corsican maffioso !

But I like Josephine too...

BTW, my dog is called Josephine (I don't dare to speak it too loud, see...), but this has nothing to do with history. She was called Josephine already when I adopted her. How lovely she is ! Am I off topic ?
