Post What if the Royal Family was never executed?
I read in: Marie Antoinette The Journey: about a year or two ago that sending Louis xvi and his family to the United States would have been an option instead of executing him.

What would you guys think of that? They could have lived a much happier life out in the country. I could see Louis as a locksmith/Blacksmith or somthing of the sort while possibly teaching the famliy english. I wish that could have happened instead of the demented, sick way most of them died.

Sorry if I'm getting my facts all screwed up. What are your opinions?

It would have been quite surprising if, once he was out of France, Louis hadn't tried to organize an army to reassert power. Even if he hadn't, I doubt very much he would have quietly retired to America. As the Revolutionaries well knew. Which was probably one of the reasons they went out of their way to find reasons to try and then execute him. (Lenin was way more straightforward - he just held the Czar and his family prisoner for a while, then had them massacred.)

True, but then again I'm just going by what the book said too.

I dont think they would have remained in America they would probably move to Austria or England even if they did not want to raise an army, didnt Louis in his last letter say to his son that if he is unfortunate enough to be king than he should never take ravenge on the French people, well maybe he would not have wanted to get back his power if he had the chance to get away, personaly i think they would have been happyer someplace in the countryside or at court in Vienna or England.
