I'm back in black and I'm here to attack with more shoes. Oddly enough a lot of these shoes look beige.

Shoe devices the things that look nice but hurt your feet.

Post Re: Women's 18th Century Shoes
I loved the shoes, too. And to think they were all made by hand, no machines available. I don't think they look as uncomfortable as those of you used to sports shoes seem to think they do. The heels aren't very high in most cases, and usually have a good solid heel that won't make you stumble. The embroidery and detail is exquisite. The thing that surprises me is how high the arches are. Our feet today are flatter than they were evidently in the 18th Century.

There's been another change in the shape of bodies over the years, so I don't think that is too unlikely. I bought a pattern once at Colonial Williamsburg for an 18th Century dress, and the instructions commented that women's shoulders sloped more back then than they do now, so some changes had to be made to the pattern to compensate for higher modern shoulders.

Yes there has been a change in the body due to better nutrition.

Some of these shoes are absolutely beautiful! I'd love to own a pair. The heels are similar to what's popular now! :angel1:

Does anyone know if Marie Antoinette had diamonds embedded on the soles of her shoes? Seems to me that I read that somewhere....? :queen:

Thanks for posting those pictures. They make great references when I do some altered art on shoes for my 18th century costume next Halloween. I'm buying a french fan (though it's from the 19th century). Those shoes are so lovely, it'll look really cuter if I stuck some feathers or rhinestones in replacement for diamonds on those buckles.

This is a good modern 18th century shoe replica

Those are lovely shoes Silliage de la Reine! I envy your beautiful shoes, I'm quite sure they'll look lovely on you.

PS:

Where did you get them?
