Hi again everyone,
In Graham Robb's highly entertaining book: The Discovery of France, he speaks about pregnant women visiting the local blacksmith to decrease the pain of their forthcoming childbirth. The woman would lie on the vibrating anvil while the blacksmith swung his hammer and sparks flew about.
Robb does not elaborate any further about how this actually decreases labour pain. I wonder if anybody knows more about this?
Thanks, all comments appreciated.

Well, they only work for so long as to help ease the pregnant lass but not to sooth the actual birth of the child.
