That is interesting...It explains why he got away with so much.... I am use to looking at him from the negative point of View. as a man responsible for the destruction of MA's reputation and the one who also helped ruin Madame Royale's. So I sometimes forget that he had a facade for those around him...

Nesta Webster says that after the Revolution, Louis XVIII tried to correct the rumors he spread about the queen, realizing that it was more to his benefit that she be presented as a martyr. In his memoirs he takes care to clear her of all charges of infidelity. Well, whatever his motives, at least he did that much....

It's the king who chooses his mistresses, not the contrary !

And being the mistress of the King was not a great rest either. It generated problems with the Queen and the ministers: example with Pompadour and Du Barry. :?

Oh ? Why do you take it personally ? I was just pointing out that, facing a ancient regime king, you wouldn't have anything to say. Womanizer or not... Do you know this old French folk song "le roi a fait battre tambour" ?

The very patriarcal world was somewhat cruel to all women, mistresses or not. And french kings were no better than oriental male rulers, who were legally polygamious and could have total control over the women in their kingdom.
To this avatar discussion, we have seen here avatars from portraits, films, buildings, mangas, photographs etc, it is nothing exceptional to see (another) Dunst.

Don't worry, dear! People will not be prejudiced beacuse of your avatar. Even though I did not like the movie, I wouldn't 'slam' anything you said! And you are right Louis XV was quite a womanizer!

Mistresses often ended up in a convent. It was an uncertain position; when the king tired of you or died, it was off to the nunnery. So anyone who would want to be a mistress had better be fond of the religious life!!

At least a queen was always a queen, even in death.....
