Post Seven Years' War
Can anyone briefly describe the Seven Years' War? Is it so that France and Austria formed an alliance here that led to the asking of Marie-Antoinette's hand in marriage? Any clarification would be appreciated

In the US, it's known as the French and Indian War. It was a land grab btwn the British and French in North America.

The seven years war had its roots back in the 1740s when Prussia (aided by France) took Silesia from Austria. Prussia then dropped France, who, in need of allies against the growing threats from England etc., sided with old enemy Austria and tried, unsuccessfully, to win Silesia back. Both wars gained little for France but cost a lot of men and money. Hence the French antipathy towards Austria. There was a whole lot more going on at the same time - the 1740s - 1770s seemed to be a time of worldwide bickering and belligerence but the above is the gist of how the war impinged on Marie Antoinette.

No sire, it is a revolution.
