Post subject:  Marquise d'Antin

On a recent visit to Paris I came across the wonderful Jacquemart-Andre museum. I was quite taken by the beauty of the house and the art collection. One painting by Nattier a portrait of Mathilde de Canisy Marquise d'Antin (1738) was especially nice.

I wonder if anyone knows anything about the Marquise and her life. I would be grateful for any information.

The website is http://www.musee-jacqumart-andre.com

By the way I'd recommend a visit to the musee it is really nice :)

If old genealogy books are correct:

Her parents died not long after she was born in 1725, and she married Antoine-Francois de Pardaillan de Gondin, marquis d'Antin, in 1737, just after she turned 12. He died in 1741, and the next year she married Louis de Brancas, comte de Forcalquier, who died in 1753. She seems to have been rich and pretty, flitting around the salons, involved in court intrigues, flirting with Horace Walpole, a frenemy of Mme du Deffand, who called her La Bellissima. Despite that, she survived the Revolution and lived to the ripe old age of 89.

According to a history journal: "Elle traversa la Révolution on ne sait trop comment, et mourut fort oubliée, à Paris" in 1814.
