Post Before starting a new topic
I would like to suggest that before starting a new topic and thread of discussion, please check the forum to make certain it has not already been started.

Otherwise, we will all be continually recovering old ground. And it makes it easy for researchers if there is one thread for the one topic.

You are completely right, dear Therese ! It would be more instresting for evrybody to make a search before opening any new topic, and check it it already exists.

You have pre-empted me! I am currently putting together some guidelines for using our forums that includes searching and will restrict the creation of new topics to moderators. As our membership has grown our boards have become quite difficult to navigate and I do find myself reading new topics that I know exist elsewhere.

Members who'd like to start a new topic will need to ask the moderator of the forum they'd like the topic to go in and the moderator will set it up for them if they believe it's appropriate. I'll also be encouraging use of the search function.

The guidelines will be posted here for everyone's perusal shortly and I'll happily field any questions about them then. In the meantime moderators please do feel free to lock topics and move conversation if you feel you need to!

I, personally, would find it helpful when looking for information to find it under one topic. Sometimes I find the seach method difficult and timely because a post may have the name, but no information. It would also 'clean up' some of the topics also, IMO. 8)

Can we have a general thread on Madame du Barry? The only one I can find is entitled 'Madame du Barry's apology' which seems rather specific. Can we have one which discusses her life and career in general?

I advise you to write in this subject 'Madame du Barry's apology', because it concerns nevertheless Du Barry… and so if there is too much difference a new subject will be creates

I thought that it was better that you continue to post in the subject 'Madame du Barry's apology' which exists, but if it is necessary, a new subject will be created

It seems to be ticking along well enough in the apology thread now :). I'd be interested to start at thread on the 'Let them eat cake' myth. I know that Antoinette did not actually say that but I have heard different explanations for it. The one I have heard most often attributes it to Marie Leczinska (spelling?) but I have also heard it attribute to Sophie. I have heard too that it was a misinterpretation of something that Antoinette DID say, or that it was totally made up and noone at all said it. I'd be interested in a thread on the different theories.
