Post Contra-revolution
Hello!
I am interested about the information about those contra-revolutionary plans, you might know.
I just bought a very interesting book from Royal Palace shop in Stockholm: Thorsten Sandberg: Gustav III:s spioner (2006). It is literally The Spies of Gustav III and tells about these contrarevolution plans. Gustav sent two swedish officers König and von Fieandt to make maps and spy the ways between Le Havre and Paris in 1791. I haven't yet read it through, but it seems very interesting plan to rescue the royal family of France. Gustav also tried to persuade Catharine of Russia to be in favour, but she refused. And Gustav was a blood-relative to both Louis and Marie Antoinette (something that I didn't know so clearly)so to him it was both personal and politics.
What other plans do you know? Please tell.

When Fersen came and visited the Tuileries for the last time in February 1792, wasn't he sent by his king with a new evasion plan, that would lead the royal family to Normandie ?

Yes, Pimprenelle, I believe that is correct.

I think they were betrayed. There were too many people like Louis XVIII who played both sides.

I've read Juliette Benzoni's book Un homme pour le Roi, and it is about the baron de Batz, a nobleman contre-revolutionary that worked for the King's released... Unfortanely, we know the fate that Louis XVI had...

The Duc de Fleury, André Hercule de Rosset de Rocozels, also worked for the contra-revolution, even if he was too much on Provence's side and not of Louis XVI's.

Post Conde
do the immigrant-led rebellions count here? Conde amassing immigrants on the border, in Coblenz, and later, the rebellion in the VEnde? (sorry again, no accents on this keyboard).

I would think so, Dorit. I am glad someone is bringing up the Vendee; it is something that needs to be discussed more.

Post two sided terror
The Vendee is an example of how both sides could engage in terrible atrocities. I read that substantially more (magnitude of 10) people were killed there than ever were guillotined, and that both sides committed terrible acts of violence towards each others and innocent peasants caught in the cross fire.

I think the people in the Vendee received the raw end of the deal. Children and women were routinely tortured and raped.

thanks, Therese, that's really useful. Victor Hugo in his (wonderful) book 1793 also discusses the Vendee in detail - but I came across more fictional work about it than research, so your articles are very helpful.
