Oh yes, I've seen that first portrait, I think she looks like Polignac in that one!

Indeed! :D

Lebrun was considered like a very beautiful woman! And she was!
Morever it's a reason why Marie-Antoinette liked her, even if she appreciated her talent for the portraits

I plan to visit her grave at Louveciennes this summer and to place a pink rose on it. Whilst I am there i shall visit the emplacement of the famous machine de marly.

Bonsoir!

We have here in Helsinki exhibition of women artists in 18th century, and there is also paintings of Lebrun... :D What a coincidence.

I think that I have to read book of this exihibition and must go again to watch those paintings. There was paintings of Ulrica Frederica Pash, which is one of my favourite painter in 18th century.

I want a picture of Marie Antoinette so bad....all framed and mounted right in my living room. But my mom isnt into that type of era, so its not exactly an A-Ok with the picture. She wants our living all done up medieval style. :?

Marie Antoinette en velors bleu - in blue velvet, 1788 is my new favorite i just recently saw it on loan from New Orleans where it permanantly lives. What I learned from this exhibition was that MA actually came to New Orleans for a visit, I did not know she traveled to the Americas.

I like that one too, Miss Molly. It's so intimate and even a bit sad...

I have never heard of this in my life. Antoinette barely travelled around France outside of Paris, so I find it hard to believe she went to America! Where did the exhibition get this information?

The show was "Spared from the storm masterpieces of the New Orleans Museum of Art" I saw the show at Stanford University and the exhibit book (which I assume was published by New Orleans Museum of art) for sale said that while New Orleans was under French rule Queen Marie Antoinette visited which is why the Vigee Le-Brun was the highlight of the show. The portait was impressive maybe 12 feet tall. That is all I know. I was completely surprised too. I would think this is reliable information. But maybe you could check it out.

I still find it hard to believe - no reputable (or otherwise) scholar has ever mentioned this, or of any other trip outside of France. Does anyone else know about this?

Marie-Antoinette NEVER left France after crossing the border at age fourteen.
