i heard in Antonia Fraser's book that her dress book still exists... the one where she would make a decision on wut to wear that day.... is there a copy of that book...?

Yes, this book does exist, there has been a post here about it. I also read that when she chose her dresses for the day, she used pins to poke a hole next to her selections. The pins she used to do this have been found in the floor boards of her room.

Indeed the "gazette des atours" of the Queen in the year 1782 is stored in the national files.
And a copy is published, I bought it and I confirm it is very instructive: this book show several fabrics samples with annotations by the Marie-Antoinette's atours woman Mrs Ossun…! Wonderful! :D

(To my mind the best biographies are that of Bertière, Nolhac and Fraser :D)

You are right, markizimara... such things may be very difficult to determine... So many objects very sold, purpotedly having once belonged to Marie Antoinette...

I doubt, it is, but it certainly looks like it is from the period, does someone have source or a better image? It looks like it came from an old book or something.

I think it is just Gorgeous too....! And like you, in spite of it perhaps not being one of Marie-Antoinette's dresses, I would wear it too ! :)
However, because of the Pannier size, I too feel that it is perhaps a Russian example. By the same token, I have encountered "experts" that have told Me that Marie-Antoinette occasionally wore the very wide and full Pannier Dresses as well. But I am not sure how reliable that information is. I personally tend to believe that She did too, as some descriptions I have read in Dutch books have led Me to believe this. One of them also describes and shows a drawing of an amazing Cape/Mantle that The Queen wore over these very wide Pannier Dresses, which was just heavenly Opulent and Grandiose.....it had a Royal Train as well !
I wish I had been there....

Post Re: Marie Antoinette's Clothing
I just read in a book at my school library that this dress belonged to Sophia Magdalena of Sweden. They had a picture of it. Sorry everybody. :(

But read the info on this page: http://www.costumes.org/TRAVEL/00pages/ ... urmol1.htm Very exciting!

I also have the Gazette des atours book, it is stunning!

Thank you Andre for that link!
It is indeed really very well done with a lot of information and other links!
Too bad the Queen did not get to wear it!

Post Re: Marie Antoinette's Clothing
A photo of a surviving shoe that was worn by Queen Marie Antoinette on her execution day is photographed in the book "The Age of Napoleon". If I knew how to post a picture on the thread Id post it~ but I have no idea how to get a picture on here. The inscription reads "Marie Antoinette's leather and silk slipper, 1793(Musee des Beaux Arts de Caen). The handwritten description on the insole reads: "Slipper worn by Queen Marie Antoinette the ill fated day when she climbed to the scaffold. This shoe was picked up by an individual when the Queen lost it and was immediately bought by M. le comte de Guernon-Ranville.".
