I meant your tone of irony (or sarcasm?) with respect to the poor country girl... you must be a 'royalist'

No I am not royalist…you are largely mistaken ….
My passion for Marie-Antoinette is not related to my political ideas I hope it's clear and obvious ....
And I suggest you to avoid writing in this forum such political insinuations for my person, or for another person … :?

I have never heard any historian claim that it was Marie Antoinette who spoke those words. I believe that they were said, but in a different context and not by her. When the revolution occured, the sentence was resurrected and unfairly pinned on her.

I wonder who did attribute those words to Marie Antoinette? It was, when you think about it, a master stroke of defamation. If any one thing has followed her through the ages it is that wretched phrase.

Qu ils mangent de la brioche.. She never said that.. in a time when that gossip came out she was not extravagant as she was earlier and she cared about people.. She knew that she was hated.. Those words were said by one Comtesse like a century before..

According to several historians, these words were said by Sophie, a Louis XVI's aunt, very before the revolution :D

I've heard around that they only made it up so they could get so many more people to hate her.
