How cool! A thread about Marie Antoinette's hair!

I have actually been thinking everything you guys have asked. I've been reading a book called Pleasure and Priveldge, about the Versailles court and MA, and apparently it was all the go to be blonde..is this true? I guess that would explain why everyone used so much powder so their hair would be lighter.

I think peroxide would be used in volumes if they had known about it back then.. Well thats what I was thinking anyway while at the hair dressers the other day getting my foils done

As far as I know, fashion then was the opposite as it is nowadays ! Now, your are supposed to be as tanned and mascular as a Californian surfer ! The more you are, the more you proove you have money to afford luxuous hollydays !

Back then, on the contrary, you had to look as pale as possible, for being tanned was the evidence you would be working outside...

For muscles, they would be considered so vulgar, you know ! Look at those jackets men wore, how narrow they are !

Furthermore, women had to look as fragile as children. So, indeed, the more blond and white you were, the better it was. With great innocent eyes and cheeks red out of emotion... and a little naive mouth.

Look at this hairdo called "à l'enfant". All that was "à l'enfant" was fashion !

That's just awesome having a personal hairdresser.

Just a simple question, I know that people used to use those extravagant wigs, but when they didn't especially Marie Antoinette, how did they manage to do they hair like that??

They weren't really wigs, it was their own hair padded up around wire frames with false hair and ornaments attached. I think only older women wore full wigs, and maybe younger women when they wanted to get really dolled up (think POTO).

No. I think extravagance is not the most interesting in Marie Antoinette. Everybody can be extravagant. Not everybody can go to the scaffold without a sigh.

I am not saying that extravagance is one of the most interesting thing about her.

It looks pretty regardless if it is or not, but if it is i bet it can cost a lot of money just to obtain one of those.

Is that this lock that is exposed in the musée Carnavalet ? It is difficult to determine what really belonged to Marie Antoinette for, immediately after her death, relics began to florish... most of them false, of course !

Marie Antoinette made the height of hairstyles a lot higher than ever before.
