Artist, Historian, Entertainer

For more than fifty years George S. Stuart has been capturing the essence of history's most famous and infamous personalities. Rarely have art and history been melded so exactly in works of such breathtaking realism.

To date, he has created more than four hundred Historical Figures that have been exhibited in the Smithsonian and private collections.

some of these look so real that i thought they were photos. They have given me some ideas for a set of photographs...

here are some of my favs:

I found these very strange to look at....the expression on Antoinette's face! Too disdainful!

For some reason I find how some of these figures are depicted insulting...Polignac, Louis XVI, Marie-Thérèse, the strange bosom of Antoinette in the la belle poule portrait. Maybe this is just me?

I will admit that some of the features are a bit exaggerated, but I for one think that they are extraordinarily accurate, pertaining to Maria Theresa in particular, she was a huge woman and the look he put on her face is perfect. Louis XVI, in the chair is really just rather comical and the one in his smithy looks incredibly good to me. Polignac, well she is a la mode and rather flamboyant, but that's how Polignac was, no? As for MA's bosom, she grew quite buxom following the children's births, although I agree that her gowns probably weren't all that revealing, but that's artistic license, and one must agree that they are absolutely gorgeous, and they do bare a striking resemblance to la Reine!

I think that they are quite good, except for Maria Theresa, I don't really care for that one. The others I thought were good especially the one with MA and her children. Thanks for posting those for us.

It's too bad these aren't available to buy as miniatures. I would love to have the one of MA and her children.

I think they are, but you have to have them specially commisioned, so he would have to make another MA with her children. All these are owned by the Ventura County Museum.

Post Re: Historical figures by George Stuart
Hello Folks. I am a longtime supporter of the artist. I will happily attempt to find answers to your questions about George Stuart and his Historical Figures(R). For openers, Mr. Stuart does take an occasional commission. However, most of his time is now occupied with monologs (entertaining lectures) and maintaining over 300 of his 400-odd Figures. Details are on his website at http://www.galleryhistoricalfigures.com.
