Indeed, it is a very pretty reticule. I know that age has wearied it a little but it does not look that grand or royal befitting our Antoinette. I am so sorry to cast doubts on you, and I hope this does not offend, for I am sure she also had small pretty items as well.

No offence taken~ but if you were to study fashion of the era, you would realize, that while not layden down with jewles as one would 'expect' royalty to have, the materials this reticule are made from, would have been very expensive in its own time. Its is very refined, and delicate, and certainly something the Queen would have owned. We see grandeose clothing today, because it was that of a Grande occasion~ everyday things, and clothing of the working class did not survive, as it was used, reused, and then used again until it was rags, and then even those were used. The average person, even upper middle class, may not have even owned a single dress in 'silk', let alone afford hand embroidery, and real silver lace.

Oh, and Thankyou so much Msr. Andre, for telling me how to post a picture. I will go and add the photo of the shoe MA wore to her execution to that thread....well heck~ I cant remember where I posted that! I think it was the clothing thread~ in any case~ it will also illustrate 'real' clothing the Queen had~ its very simple. It is all leather, with just a simple pleated silk band on the throat

Well, sorry for my ignorance... but where is that shoe now???? In any museum?
I also heard there is a shoe of MA in Carnavalet museum in Paris but last July I was there and although I looked for it I saw no MA's shoe anywhere...
Are your picture's shoe and Carnavalet's one (if there is any) the same?
Thanks!

Oh, the "purse" is just amazing. Thank you very much, 1750mantuamaker, for letting us see it.

I guess you can contact people at Versailles directly if you really believe it is the real thing, they have a research centre one may contact (e-mail: centrederecherche@chateauversailles.fr, but there are more info on http://www.chateauversailles.fr/). Maybe they can be of help even if they themselves are not interested, they should know who you could contact to get it thourougly examined. I don't really know, but it's a thought.
