Post Marie-Antoinette's Prayer Book
This was posted on EM Vidal's blog today, I'm sure most have probably stumbled upon it online before, but it is lovely all the same.

Post Re: Marie-Antoinette's Prayer Book
Interesting, for more than one reason. The time, half past four in the morning is the same time as that written on her last letter. She may have profited from the fact that she had a pen, given to her to write this last letter, to make this short entry. The words are similar to the end of this last letter. And the choice of Chalons-sur Marne is interesting: from my calculations this is the only town in France outside the immediate Paris region where the Queen actually spent more than one night. She stayed there once in 1770 on the trip from Vienna, and again in 1791 on the way back from Varennes.
