Post Did Marie Antoinette like betting on horses?
I didn't know Marie Antoinette liked betting on horses (racing) until now, actually. Did she like horses?

I love horses too. 8) They're so cute, despite their tennis ball sized brains. What is the reason for you not liking horses I don't mean to pry? Curiosity killed the cat. :) I meant going to a horse race and placing bets too. I definately appreciate the answer too. :D

Just as you said, horses aren't the brightest bulb. And it was a phase. I still love them, though. I used to ride them quite seriously, but then I became interested in Marie Antoinette!
I believe there was one scene where Marie Antoinette's husband asked her to quiet down because she was cheering so loudly for her favorite horse at the races! :D

I come from a family who are quite keen on horses,so I have been around them for quite a long time. Were you a hunter or a jumper or am I prying again? Vraiment? I did not know that Marie Antoinette made a scene during a race! I am certainly learning new things each day! :)

Antoinette loved riding horses, she even used to follow Louis when he was hunting. Though her mother Maria Theresa, and many with her, disapproved she did it anyway.

I suppose I rode hunter jumper... I was never very talented at riding, though. A canter is as far as I got. But just being around horses was good enough for me! :D
I'm like that with cats now. I love cats!
I didn't know that horse races were around back then until I read one of EM Vidal's blog entries.

Ah I see. Sadly, I haven't gotten past trot yet, even though I've been around horses since nearly day one.

I have advice to give: If you take lessons, tell your teacher that you really want to canter. I told my teacher, and within a fortnight I was cantering.
Cantering certainly makes you feel light-headed... Something about traveling that fast on a horse...

Wow, I love horse too! I've tried riding just once, but I'd really like to learn!
As for Marie Antoinette, I know she loved riding too, even if Maria Theresa thought it couls be dangerous in case of a pregnancy, and aIso know she bet on horses sometimes.

Didn't Marie Theresa also advise against riding in carriages when pregnant?

Yes. For some reason, she believed in her ultra paranoid way that Marie Antoinette would have a miscarriage due to a sudden jolt in a carriage. Nowadays, people wouldn't be so careful.
