Re: Evelyne Lever's book (The Last Queen)
Does anyone know which painting the cover picture of this book was taken from?

well, the one I have has Martin Mytens' portrait of MA when she was 12 on its cover...But I don't know if it's the same you mean, Delicate Fleur. It is a 2006 edition by an editor called "Portrait"

Is it taken from the painting of the Queen with her children and the jewel cabinet? E. M. Vidal has a post about it, although the book cover appears to be a mirror image. http://teaattrianon.blogspot.com/2008/0 ... nette.html

Re: Evelyne Lever's book (The Last Queen)
Of course reading anything about MA is a little pleasure of mine ... I enjoyed this book but it is too compacted in the last few chapters i think .. and describing the queen as "haughty" every time the queen had an emotion is beginning to wear a bit thin!!!

i loved this book. Madame de Pompadore: a Life, by Lever was very good too.

Really?! Her books are just so much easier to read.. Fraser's was a little overwhelming.

Re: Evelyne Lever's book (The Last Queen)
I would avoid reading Erickson's (or anybody else's) novel about the Queen. Erickson also wrote a bio of Marie Antoinette called "To the Scaffold". Erickson is a very easy read. She is probably no better or worse than Lever or Haslip - whom both also have inaccuracies in their books.

Re: Evelyne Lever's book (The Last Queen)
Well aren't all biography prone to a little incorrectness? Artistic license and really if your writing the book there isn't much to work off...She did die over 200 years ago..
