The Diamonds were taken apart by the Comtesse de la Motte. It has been remade and now rests in Versailles as part of the Queens Private Appartements. When it was made it was valued at 1.6 million livres.

Thanks. Now i understand why Marie Antoinette, never wanted the neclake, it was an astronomic price, for anyone (included the queen). So, if she was so superficial or headless, just like some people wats to pass her image in history, i´m sure she was bought the necklace.

Rather an unfortunate adjective to use for the Queen, don't you think

Well the necklace was commissioned by Louis the fifteenth with Madame du Barry in mind and she was known for her extravagance in clothes and jewelry and then once Louis the fifteenth passed away the jewelers tried to sell it to Marie Antoinette which she refused.
