Post the Chateau and other castles
I recently visited the Chateau de Versailles and absolutely fell in love with it. The grandness of it took my breath away. I knew it was Marie Antoinette's home which led me to this site. I was hoping more people could tell me about it. She had to have had other castles too, right? Does anyone know what they were and where they were located? http://www.worldreviewer.com/experiences/castle/ told me a little about the Chateau but not about her other castles. any insight? I find it all really fascinating.

ah!
Versailles was her home when she first arrived in france.
she grew up in the Schonnbrunn when she was a little girl, in Austria.

when she was Queen, Louis XVI gave her the petit trianon as a getaway. (which is also part of versailles)

the other roayl residences are,
fontainebleau
compiegne
rambouillet
Saint-cloud(burnt to the ground, parc still exists, LOVELY!!!)
you can tour allof these,
although im not so sure about rambouillet!

Tomorrow I shall be visiting Vaux le Vicomte and Fontainebleau in the same day, dragging round a recalcitrant German client with me, who just wants to go to the café and sit down. I shall ignore this blatant lack of any cultural enlightenment and pretend she's not there, whilst of course saying the necesary platitudes to keep her happy. Ah how wonderful those Châteaux are and what stories and images they conjure up for such as us.....of Fouquet and his fateful party, of La Reine in her boudoir.

Vaux le Vicomte is on my list of things to do while in Paris! I'm imagining that party.........................it must have been spectacular!
A cruel twist of fate for Nicolas Fouquet.

I also think that Chenonceau is a most beautiful chateau - one can really get the sense of it being a home.

And it was...mainly to a few illustrious ladies....Catherine de Médicis and the "White Queen" in her mourning

And Diane de Poitier - she loved Chenonceau and was the King's mistress. It was taken away from her by a jealous Catherine de Medici when the King died.
