Post Marie Antoinette, ''Daughter of the Caesars''
I have often read of Marie Antoinette being referred to as the ''Daughter of the Caesars''. Does anyone happen to know how she came about being referred to as this, and if she did in fact have any relation to the Caesar line??

She was called this because she was part of the Imperial family of Hapsburg, and the Austrian Empire was the continuation of the Holy Roman Empire, which was considered like the ideal descendant of the Roman Empire. That's why Daughter of the Caesars.

I think -in this case- the word "caesar" has no common point with the Roman Empire. In the 18th century it was used as "emperor", it was a synonym of monarch. (Of course, nowadays it sounds very out-fashioned :( )

I confirm this information. I read so more than once.

I thought is was something similar of that sort. Why is it Caesars? Wouldn't it be Daughter of the Caesar? :/

"Caesar" is how all the emperors of Rome were called, and that's also why it came to be a sort of synonim of the term "emperor". Did I unserstand your question rightly?

The Queen was descended from a long line of rulers, including her father and her maternal grandfather, who bore the title of "Kaiser," the German for "Caesar." In Russia, the Emperor was also referred to as "Caesar" which in Russian was "Czar" or "Tsar." Marie-Antoinette is often referred to as "Daughter of the Caesars," meaning that she was descended from a many Holy Roman Emperors, who commonly called themselves "kaiser" or "caesar."
