Indeed. It was all about the beauty not necessarily comfortable, yet it was ironically useful at the same time.

You would simply turn your body and go in length wise to fit in the door.

I don't understand why as to they would accuse her of being so decadent! This dress was reused in another portrait of Marie Antoinette in 1785. It was indeed recycled and other parts of her outfits were reused as well. Here is the 1785 image. http://www.marie-antoinette.org/Galleri ... ts.html#20

Actually Librorum, the dress in the second picture is blue, so it seams she may have had the same design made in two different colors. It is unlikely since she wore them in portraits that she ever wore them in real life.

That is what I have suspected M. Andre. However do you think there may be the slightest chance that would have worn that in real life? Comte de Provence wrote: i see, it never makes much sense at all...btw, french doors are wide enough for the dresses... What about English doors and Polish doors weren't they built wide enough?!? No I'm joking. The French knew it would have been a while until they would be able to use normal doors again.

I find doors fascinating when I either have to pick them with a pin or when someone gets injured trying to get in! I'm such an awful person! :}
