I don't know, perhaps she did. It would be nice to see if there were any more evidence to see whether or not she did indeed wear it.

Well, I think MA suffered from what in the 18th century corresponded to our paparazzi: gossip and nasty pamphlets.
Unluckily, famous and beautiful women with a strong personality always attract gossip :cry:

Unless the portrait was painted some time after the dresses were made for her (although if she had already worn them in public I doubt she would have had portraits painted of herself in them), I doubt she ever wore them in public because for a woman like Marie Antoinette who literally had more clothes than anyone else in the world, she wouldn't have hesitated to discard the gowns since they had already been used in such an important way (e.g. state portraits; one of them was sent to Catherine II). This was a prerogative then, before and after among many ruling houses.
