Yes I am aware! I am unsure about everyone else...
I think until it got to america, it wasn't considered a profession. Maybe we should read a history of acting?

I looked actors up, however I could only find everything else about theatres and productions however nothing on actresses or actors. I'll have to search more I suppose.

Like I've said before I suppose most likely if your occupation didn't benefit society such as a cooper making barrels than perhaps you were shunned.

Yes, how the tables have turned. Now if you do something for the benefit of society, you are considered low. Hmm, amazing.

Talk about the irony in life and in today's society! If it weren't for the common man and women those people wouldn't even have a chance to "rise" to stardom.

I might have found more information as to regards with acting according to John Brewer, the reason why actors were and acting as a whole is the following. First, although some people were honest people went to the theatre it was primarily the "lowest" people or rowdy people. However it was mainly an actors objection to develope some sort of emotion but to interpret the script further. A better actor was more vital than a wonderful writer.

Like us the public also had quite the liking for scandal, which gave a sense of knowing the person making the actor unique. Only the best actors had their private lives public and it soon became an art and a literature genre, since actors penned autobiographies. Toward the end of the century actors wrote even more, however represented acting in a well- better light.

" The life of an actor was engaging, demanding and full of pleasure but difficult as representing as reputable. " John Brewer.

However most actors were "violent, quarrelsome, unrefined, and lewd. Actors' rivalries and petty spites often lead to blows"

Although there are actresses who were indeed more than respectable, even though the press paints a picture of actresses having little to no virtue or being a whore.

That sounds like today's celebrities and actresses/actors, what a startling resemblance! :]
