I am sure you will visit Versailles! Everything's possible!

Well I was there twice... The first visit was wonderful, I went with my parents. It was in 2006, as I remember the palace was under restoration. I saw the Queen's chamber... it was wonderful! The place that can be missed was the Hall of Mirrors. It could be beautiful in the time of the kings but in 2006 I found it really dirty! I do not know but if I were a responsible for the palace, I would make to clean it in every twenty minutes!
You can imagine the gardens in summer! Really lovely!

The second visit was in last november. I visited France with one of my best friends and it was a damage because in Versailles she did not want to go to the palace because of the lot of people. I hated this situation but (ahhh what a silly person I was :angryfire: ) I allowed and we visited only the gardens. So, what do you think? I had to go to the palace!!!! I am still angry at me!!!

Monika dear, try searching through the Château de Versailles & Other Royal Residences forum...there are some delightful stories there, particularly from Baron de Batz under 'Trianon'. Do so read them. :book:

I had visited Versailles and it was one wonderful experience but I don’t think I saw it properly. First because the terrible crowd that disabled me to see or hear anything and the second because I wasn’t that interested in Marie Antoinette, more in the 18th century in general. I enjoyed in France and its old architecture and I definitely must visit it again!

Wow, how did you manage that?! I so dream of hiring out at great cost the Pavillon Français and the Belvedère and terrace of the Petit Trianon for a summer party. I think that its' the definition of impossible, but Mr Arrizolli could make it happen! One last party, the party to end all parties and then softly drown in the lake there to the accompaniment of the "peace" 3rd movement of Glück's "Orphée et Eurydice".....sigh

I went to Versailles in July 2004. (I was in a summer study aboard program) I got to see the Grande and Petit Trianon and took a general tour of the palace. The surrounding garden at Petit Trianon was being re-landscaped at the time so I didn't get to see the whole garden. I also got an English language guide book of Versailles and a few postcards (including one of La Reine) from a gift shop.
We had lunch in the town after leaving the palace.

Baron, so good to have you back! :]

My aunt's bestfriend is the curator of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. She donates a lot of money to Versailles every year, and is very close to Monsieur Arizolli due to parties and events that take place there. They have some histroy. I believe also my aunt did a student exchange with his family in her youth.

So, when it was crowded, and our tour guide decided to spit upon the Royal Family and was very un-sympathetic to MA, she grabbed my arm and told me we were going to see her friend. She led me to the offices, and asked to see him. I sat outside and about ehh, 10 minutes they came out laughing and showed us the renovation of the Apartments of Madame de Pompadour, and Madame du Barry. Also, we walked down the passage that connects the upper private apartments of la Reine with the apartments of Du Barry.
