Post Re: Marie Antoinette's Clothing
I've read different variations on her height from about 5'3-5'7 though, I'm inclind to go more towards 5'3ish

Can you put it into meters?
Someone mentioned here that she was about 1.65 which I think is great because I am that high! :angel9:

Post Re: Marie Antoinette's Clothing
exquisite, two-piece court gown worn by Marie-Antoinette goes on display in the Patricia Harris Gallery of Textiles & Costume on Saturday, Oct. 11 for two weeks only, in advance of its requested loan to the palace of Versailles in 2009.It has been in a vault for 30 years!! I want to go to Totonto to see it for myself.

Thanks so much for sharing this! The material is gorgeous - even in the photo you can see how the silk shines! Oh, I would love to see this in person!

the dress is beautiful. She had a tiny waist, I know they wore corsets back then but I always amazes me how tiny it made their waist.

Ooo, thanks so much for posting this! I am surprised, I thought the only articles of clothing belonging to Marie Antoinette that survived were the bodice and the shoe.

Post Re: Marie Antoinette's Clothing
This is more information regarding the dress,I to was happy to find a dress still survived, unfortunately I will not be able to see it as we will be on vacation in Naples!! wanted to cancel trip to see the dress..."This formal court dress comprises a fitted bodice with attached train and matching petticoat of silk satin made in the fashionable style of the 1780s. It demonstrates the height of the 18th century professional embroiders’ art as seen in the lavish, artistic design which combines plant and flower, peacock and pheasant feather motifs on pale blue, pink and ivory satin appliquéd swags of ribbon and bows. Further embellished with spangles, glass stones, pleated metallic strips and two types of metallic thread made from thin metal coil wrapped over a silk core, this is one of the few dresses attributed to Marie-Antoinette and her dressmaker, Marie-Jeanne “Rose” Bertin, that survive; often identified as the first couturière, Rose Bertin was Marie-Antoinette’s favoured marchande de modes. The dress was acquired in 1925 by the Museum’s first director, Charles Trick Currelly from Mary Christie, a London antiques dealer. It will be on display until Sunday, October 26, 2008."

You're right. I was just going by the shape of the waist to me it just looked like it was meant to be worn over a corset.

That dress is beautiful, can only imagine how stunning it looks in person. I think it would be a little overwhelming to see in person, you know, knowing that Marie-Antoinette had once worn it.

Thank you for posting it for us michaelangela and a description of the gown.

This beautiful 18th-century bonnet belonged to Marie-Antoinette's daughter. Marie-Antoinette's duchesse satin shoe is to the right of the bonnet. The historical items are part of an astonishing museum-quality collection at a family chateau in the Loire Valley, France.Faded grandeur of 17th-century hand-stitched slippers. Wooden and ivory crucifixion figures of Christ and gold gilt angel wings are stuffed inside the shoes. The former Queen of France's shoes and monogrammed and embroidered garters. At left is her daughter's bonnet.Delicious!!! I love to see things that she wore. What style!!
