Re: The New Marie Therese Bio
MadameRoyale wrote: I, too, highly recommend this book! I'm so sad to be nearly finished and I shall definitely be reading it again more closely. Nagel very beautifully depicts each scene of Marie Therese's life, paying much more attention to milieu than any other biography I have previously read. I feel very much immersed into the era of enlightenment, the horror of the tower, and the feeling of being free from it all at last. ^^! I completely agree with what you have said! I was surprised to find out a few things about Marie Antoinette and Louis XVI in the beginning that I didn't know. They way that Nagel has written this book makes me feel as if I were there next to Marie Therese feeling her emotions. Especially during the failed escape. Even though I knew it didn't work, the way it was written had me feeling the excitement of it and the hope they must have had along with the grief when caught. I found that she did an excellent job in her research! I have learned a lot more about how things happened and people involved and overall what she went through. I too am on the final pages and have found that I am taking my sweet time reading them because I don't want it to end. Madame Royal was a beautiful soul and strong woman who makes just as good a role model as her mother! Even when Nagel talks about a possible affair between Madame de Polignac and Louis XVI, she was able to keep it far above the gutter!! She does seems to be the first to mention it, but that alone hold no baring for me. While in my opinion he probably didn't have an affair with her,in the end, I wasn't there. Oh if walls could talk!!! LOL (Possible Spoiler) One note of interest for me was how much Antoinette wanted to be back in Austria while in France, and how when Marie Therese was in Austria for a bit, she did love being able visit her m others old "stomping grounds" but how she ached to be back in France. The similarities in that case are exactly opposite. LOL I can only hope to have such a loving and strong spirit, but never be in a place to find out.

I just don't see the problem with Louis and Polignac beingeach others, "rocks"... I am glad she did not dive into the gutter as well, I would've torn the book in half...

Re: The New Marie Therese Bio
ya know, if there was something between them, I don't think it would be an issue for me. She does point out quite a few coincidences that would put them together. With the times and her father, well, every king really, I don't think Antoinette would mind to much. It was pretty much expected for the king to have a mistress. I think the only thing Antoinette would have been irked about would be if she was from the streets.
