Post Plaisir d'amour
Does anyone know where I could download this song, one of which Marie Antoinette sang? 'C'est mon ami' would also be a good find!

Is this the song she sings in Affair of the Necklace?

Yes, I believe it is. If anyone can help me track down these two songs I would be eternally grateful! :P

That movie had fleeting moments of historical accuracy? I'll be. (Aside from the costumes. They did a good job on those.)

Post Re: Plaisir d'amour
Je t'aimerai, me répétait Sylvie,
L'eau coule encore, elle a changé pourtant.
Plaisir d'amour ne dure qu'un moment,
Chagrin d'amour dure toute la vie.

The joys of love are but a moment long,
The heartache of love lasts for life.
I have left everything for ungrateful Sylvia,
But she left me and took another lover.
The joys of love are but a moment long,
The heartache of love lasts for life.
"As long as the water flows gently
To the stream that borders the meadow,
I will love you", repeated Sylvia to me.
The water still flows, yet she has changed.
The joys of love are but a moment long,
The heartache of love lasts for life.

Post Re: Plaisir d'amour
This song, or one with the same title, was written by a composer of successful comic operas named, by his own device, "Martini" (originally, Schwarzendorf). Martini wrote another tune found frequently in contemporary arrangements was "L'Amour est un Enfant Trompeur." Earlier this year I listened to a recording with Lily Pons singing her version of "Plaisir d'amour" along with selections by other composers; but I would hesitate to recommend looking for it simply because we are now accustomed to hearing this music with it's original instrumental accompaniment - and I believe this was a '50s-era rendition. / On the subject of isolated songs that outlive the memory of their composer, Rameau's reputation rested for decades in the 19th Century and into the 20th Century on a handful of harpsichord pieces that predated even his first opera. When early revivals of some of Rameau's enormous operatic output began to be heard, some audiences shouted "Vive Rameau - a bas Gluck!" / So, in the case of Mr. Martini, we have some delights in store for us when the day comes that his operatic gems are unearthed and performed, and we can appreciate this composer based on more than a single song. / I have photocopies of original editions of four of Martini's song collections with accompaniments for harp or fortepiano that date from 1785 in the first collection and 1794-(@) 1796 in the others.(Your song is not present.) Such poets as Florian, M.J. Chénier, and Citoyenne Théis Pipelet are represented. It amazes me that the songs in the collections during the worst of the political upheavals are as charming and pleasing as though nothing out of the ordinary were going on!
