I absolutely adore flowers, and don't think they're cliche....we know that Antoinette loved vases and vases of flowers all over the Petit Trianon....I would love to cover my house in them! Unfortunately the partner likes seeing them growing in their natural state, he doesn't like to 'wound' them by cutting them off from their roots and placing them inside.

I find this quote interesting.

"Love is three quarters curiosity."
-Giacomo Casanova

There are of course Julie l'Espinasse's letters:

A Star of the Salons, Julie de Lespinasse (By Camilla Jebb) - page 267 http://books.google.com/books?id=WsNBAAAAIAAJ&pg=PA209&dq=d%27Alembert+dream&lr=&as_brr=1&client=firefox-a#PPA267,M1

http://gallica.bnf.fr/ark:/12148/bpt6k2027987

which are almost overwhelming in their frank (nay, abject) passion (and available today in various tacky CD and gift versions), but almost outweighed by D'Alembert's grief stricken responses to her death:

Oeuvres philosophiques, historiques et littéraires de d'Alembert (Jean le Rond d'Alembert)

NOTE:the TOC reference here is to Volume I, which presumably is somewhere on Google Print as well.

I've only recently heard of this 1998 novel, but it seems like, among many other things, it explores D'Alembert's (peculiar) relationship with L'Espinasse:

D'Alembert's Principle: A Novel in Three Panels by Andrew Crumey

This is SUPPOSED to be available on Gallica now. It doesn't appear to be yet, and so I can't say just how romantic it is:

Le mariage de Mme Roland : trois années de correspondance amoureuse, 1777-1780 / publié, avec une introduction et des notes, par A. Join-Lambert,... - E. Plon, Nourrit et Cie (Paris) - 1896

But the Rolands' marriage was a great, if peculiar, love story.

Keep checking back on the site, if it interests you.
