Post In memoriam Louis
Hello all,

I have just realized that 216 years ago, on this day Loius XVI, King of France departed this life. Remember him for a short moment! He had several faults but in the end he was a kindly king, a loving husband and a good father!

I often thought of him today, he was a very under-estimated man, complex and secret, with considerable intelligence and integrity. Today I visited his cousin's Château at Chantilly, and admired a fine painting of his wife by Drouais, posing as Hebe. Ah the life of a Baron.....

Baron, I envy your situation: you're lucky that you live in Paris!
So you paid your duty to Louis by this visit of his cousin's chateaux

Let's say it was a pure coincidence...I had fixed the day a while back.

It was a good timing! :)
So, everybody, think of Louis a bit, but don't be sad, because he earned after-ages honor by his brave death!

Anouk - Thank you so much for posting this reminder! The day would have slipped by me unnoticed. (Caught up in the excitement of our new President it had completely slipped my mind.) I have lit a candle in his memory.

I have thought of him several times today. He was a good man, and very brave in his death.
Rest in peace, Louis!

Riposi in pace.

I am currently reading Cronin's "Louis and Antoinette" and really enjoying his writing on Louis from an early age onwards. Very fascinating, and deepens my admiration of the man.

Thanks again! Our new President is very exciting as most feel that he is truly representative of who we really are. We have a bad reputation in the world and most Americans are not proud of this. Hopefully the right leader can help to correct our previous government's bad behavior and make peace with the world. Now, maybe, people might stop thinking of us as stupid Americans (Not to say some aren't - but that's the norm everywhere).
It's a step in the right direction!

I find American people very intelligent and kind (leastwise, I have no bad experience about them so far)- but it is true that ex-government's reputation was very low.
I am also happy about this event- it also raises hope for us, Europeans :)

Not all of us are rejoicing.

Let us please stay on the topic of poor king Louis XVI.
