There's no doubt that Lamballe died the most horrific recorded death of the Revolution.

she was so beautiful! and died a painful, embarrassing death

were just a brain, an athlete, a princess, a basketcase, and a criminal, does that answer your question?

Thank you so much for your reply, by any chance do you know any books that focuses on the Private Life of Marie like what would she do with her friends, how did she feel on certain issues etc. ?

There was a book on the Queen in The Private Realm of Marie Antoinette: By Madame Campan. ... 286.c0.m14

Post Re: Lamballe and Polignac

Marie did nt actually meet Gabrielle Polignac until 1775 and it
seems that at that moment... Marie had found her soul mate.
Gabrielle also became a friend of the Comt D'Artois Marie's brother in law
and they became part of Marie's racy circle.
Maybe the Comte D'artois was a bad influence on the future Queen...
and led her to all those excesses for which she was so severely criticized ?
Maybe Gabrielle was a bad influence too ?

I may be wrong but I get the feeling that Gabrielle took the place of the
Princess de Lamballe as Marie's closest friend...
Gabrielle was chic... she was a part of the French jet set...
whereas Lamballe was a bit wet in comparison

The Princess de Lamballe proved herself the devoted friend throughout the bad times
and was with Marie in all her adversity and humiliations during the early 1790s
But Gabrielle Polignac was Marie's soul mate... the friend she loved more than
any other and Marie was devastated when Gabrielle left for the safety of Switzerland... even though Marie insisted that she should go.

Polignac was fun, fresh, and most importantly very unVersailles.

A curious note: the Princesse de Lamballe and the Duchesse de Polignac, were born on the same day (8 September 1749).
