Just to give you the reason why I raised this question is that I do think it is essential when contributing to a forum like this to have at least read one biography of the Queen, simply that, or maybe some associated book on the 18th century.

If you want I can put my list as well.

Yes, Baron - You are so well versed, I am interested in your readings. There are some things out there that have not yet been translated to English -
and I admire that you have probably read them in French! Me - I can only read English..................

Anouk, thanks! You are an extremely intelligent woman as your posts also show!

Well, depends to what you refer baron, but for example I got a bit more positive attitude towards the 18th century hygiene reading a book by Mirabeau, at least he used the verbs as "washing" in a term of body hygiene as something quite usual. And there was very interesting information about some general 18th century attitudes.

Yes please, I'm interested in what you've read! It will be a long list, I presume dear Baron.

Indeed, it is a very qualitative list. I see there is a bio on Baron de Batz in your list :) Very well!

By your list I became interested in ""Le drame de Varennes" and "Les massacres de Septembre". These are such events in the history of the revolution I am curious about. It's no problem that these books are written in French, I need to improve my French anyway. I must look for them!

Post Re: biographies of marie antoinette
Baron must forgive me for this teasing, if he didnt deliberately provoke it by writing TWICE, but I must say that he personally told me that he never finished Zweig, but skipped more than a half and started some new book! But then again in the same conversation when I spoke about the parents of Louis XVI, how the generation was skipped by death of the son of Louis XV and I also said something about Marie-Josèphe de Saxe, he corrected me, with his usual authority, how Louis XV never had sons and even that the mentioned lady was his (Louis XV) mother  (of course later he denied ever saying the second)! So I may assume that skipping pages, like with Zweig, may be his usual practice.

(no need to say after this type of error that I briefly looked at the list with a good amount of scepticism  )

Well Marija I was of course just keeping you on your toes with those deliberate mistakes and I must say you passed the test admirably! How could you honestly think a man of my learning could make such blatant errors?! I'm a little disappointed in you...
